PNMOC ... The Pacific Northwest Metropolitan Owners Club

*Welcome!

Our club was established to bring together individuals and families who have a passion for the classic Metropolitan automobile. We are a chapter of the national Metropolitan club: Metropolitan Owners Club of North America (MOCNA). MOCNA is an international club of Metropolitan owners, supporters, and collector car enthusiasts.

The Metropolitan was designed and created more than 50 years ago, bringing a new, small American car into the USA marketplace. Unlike other American cars of the time, it brought a different philosophy into place—small, compact, fuel efficient. Not overwhelmingly accepted during its time in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s, it has become a favorite vehicle for present day fans, including collectors and restorers. The moniker it carries with it is “Cute”. Typically, it is enjoyed being used as it was designed and restored to original specifications. Certainly, some owners have modified their cars to improve power, safety, and added a multitude of colors to the exterior. Even with these changes the distinctive look of the Met is undeniable.

Metros Participate in Holiday Parade!

The 27th annual My Macy’s holiday Parade was held on November 24th this year in Seattle, and this was our 23rd year as participants!   PNMOC’s  ten car team was a crowd favorite, judging by the waves, smiles, cheers and comments of “Cute!" and "Love that car!"” we received from the viewers along the route.   We lucked out on the weather; rainless and warm enough to bring out thousands of happy people who lined the streets to watch the parade.  Our formation of festively decorated Metros motored along the one mile parade route that meandered through the downtown retail core.  After shedding our holiday decorations at route’s end we caravanned and rendezvoused at a local Denny’s restaurant where we all enjoyed a well deserved and tasty brunch.   Well done, entrants – can’t  wait for next year!

Thank you to everyone who shared their pictures, including my sister Bev.

The President's Message

*MINI OR MET?

We just returned from a Mini Cooper Rally, called 'Mini Takes the States'.  It is a bi-annual event where Mini's tour the USA rendezvousing in a common location.  We were on the Western tour, starting in Portland, OR,  then  to California, Arizona, New Mexico, and finishing in Keystone, CO, at the ski resort there.  At the same time, another Mini tour group started in Orlando, FL and made their way across  the USA to Keystone, all joining together in one parking lot---1200 Mini's in one spot.  Certainly, Mini's of today are different than a Met of yesteryear, but there are some fun comparisons.

First, the length of the Mini convertible and coupe are similar to the Met, the Met being narrower.  Each usually has a manual transmission, the Met with a 3 speed, the Mini with a 6 speed.  Both have similar size engines, Met 1500cc, Mini 1568cc, but horsepower is a little different, Met 55hp, Mini 181hp.  That leads to some interesting observations.  Speed limit signs indicate to the Met driver a high target to aim for, accomplish and maintain.  A goal.  For  the Mini driver it is the slowest speed to attain, while normal speed would be 10mph +++ for driving.  Both cars accelerate well, the Met while going downhill, the Mini downhill and uphill.
